Proper disposal of household hazardous waste (HHW) is essential to protect both the environment and public health. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, residents have access to several facilities and programs designed to handle such materials safely.
Dallas Residents:
The Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center offers free disposal services for Dallas residents. Located at 11234 Plano Road, Dallas, Texas 75243, the center accepts various household hazardous wastes, including:
- Chemical products for home use
- Paint and home repair products
- Lawn and garden chemicals
- Aerosol sprays
- Pool chemicals
- Craft and hobby supplies
- Cleaners and polishes
- Batteries of all kinds
- Automobile fluids and oil filters
- Fluorescent light tubes
- Computers and cell phones
Operating hours are:
- Tuesday: 9 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Wednesday and Thursday: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Residents must provide proof of current address. Non-residents may be subject to a minimum waste management fee.
Fort Worth Residents:
The Environmental Collection Center (ECC) serves Fort Worth residents and those from participating cities. Located at 6400 Bridge Street, Fort Worth, Texas, the ECC accepts items such as:
- Automotive fluids and fuels (up to 10 gallons)
- Batteries
- Cleaners and chemicals (up to 10 gallons)
- Cooking oil (up to 10 gallons)
- Lawn, garden, and pool chemicals (up to 20 gallons)
- Light bulbs (up to 20 bulbs)
- Paint and painting supplies (up to 30 gallons)
Proof of residency, such as a current water bill or valid driver’s license, is required. Some municipalities may require residents to obtain a voucher before using the center; it’s advisable to check with local officials regarding voucher requirements.
Residents of Unincorporated Tarrant County:
Residents in unincorporated areas of Tarrant County can access the Fort Worth ECC by obtaining a voucher through the Tarrant County Transportation Services Department. - Non-Accepted Items: Items such as ammunition, explosives, medical waste, and radioactive materials are typically not accepted. Contact local authorities for guidance on disposing of these materials.
